About Stephen
Why Supervision Matters to Me
I came to coaching supervision through a deep belief that every coach deserves, and needs, a space to explore their practice with honesty, depth, and care. Coaching is demanding work. We hold space for others, navigate complexity, and constantly stretch ourselves. Without our own reflective space, we risk burnout, blind spots, and isolation.
Supervision isn't just professional development. It's essential support for the essential work coaches do.
I supervise because I believe in the transformative power of reflective practice, and because I've experienced firsthand how supervision has deepened my own coaching practice and sustained me through challenging periods.
Professional Journey
I've been coaching professionally since 2018 and now work full-time with my wife, Sinéad, at a company we started together called Bysands Limited. Before that, I had a successful 25+ year career leading engineering and technology teams in organisations like Accenture, S3 Group, and Nortel Networks.
In 2022, I left corporate life to focus entirely on coaching, supervision, and coach training. This transition allowed me to deepen my practice and bring all of my experience, both as a coach and as someone who has navigated significant career transformation, to my supervision work.
Before becoming a coach, I led complex technical projects, managed distributed teams across time zones, and navigated the pressures of organisational life. This background gives me particular insight when supervising coaches who work within complex organisational systems or who have ventured out on their own.

What I Bring to Supervision
Phenomenological Grounding
My supervision practice is grounded in phenomenology—attending to lived experience, presence, and being rather than just doing. This shapes how I listen, what I notice, and what I invite supervisees to explore.
Systemic Lens
I work systemically, exploring not just individual coaching interactions but the wider contexts - organisational systems, personal patterns, relational dynamics—that shape coaching practice.
Deep Coaching Experience
I've coached hundreds of clients across multiple contexts: executive coaching, leadership development, transitions, and personal transformation. I've worked with everyone from emerging leaders to C-suite executives.
Fellow Traveller Stance
I don't supervise from a place of having it all figured out. I supervise as a fellow coach who continues to learn, grow, and face my own development edges. This creates partnership rather than hierarchy.
Genuine Care
Beyond credentials and methods, I bring genuine care for the coaches I supervise. Your development matters to me, not just professionally but as a whole person navigating the challenges and joys of this profession.
Beyond Supervision
While supervision is my primary focus through Reflective Coach, I also offer:
- ICF Mentor Coaching for coaches pursuing or renewing credentials
- Coach Training as an associate trainer with multiple organisations
- Personal Coaching for a small number of clients seeking transformational depth (through stephenclements.ie)
- Organisational Work through Bysands, focusing on employee experience and human-centred coaching
